Belleville council could be making a decision on major changes to the city’s public transit system next month.
The Transit Operations Committee has approved changes in a new Transit Master Plan and is forwarding it to council.
Committee Chair Councillor Kathryn Brown says what’s excellent about the new plan is that the bus routes will be more direct.
” … so being able to get from one end of the city to the other within half an hour I think will be very attractive for a lot of people who are
concerned about what we can and cannot do.”
There will also be updated scheduling software to help drivers time their routes on the fly and a new fare system for passengers if council approves.
The changes would not come into effect until the new year allowing for lots of time for a public education campaign.
The committee is also expecting a report from its consultant on how best to address under-served and future growth area for transit in the near future.
