The bus is likely a write-off but the five passengers on board at the time a Belleville Transit bus caught fire Monday afternoon are all well.
Chair of Belleville Transit’s Operations Committee Councillor Kathryn Brown says bus driver Rob Meale smelled something he thought was wiring burning and immediately stopped on Dundas Street West near Hastings Manor and got the riders off the bus and away from it.
” … and I’m glad he did because right after the passengers were marshalled off, the flames started and he called 911 right away so the bus driver did a good job. He did exactly what his training told him to do.”
The fire occurred around 3 o’clock Monday afternoon.
