The following release was sent by the City of Belleville.
Belleville Fire & Emergency Services and Belleville Police Service are pleased to be coming together to take part in Canadian Blood Services’ Sirens for Life blood donation campaign.
Sirens for Life is an annual initiative that sees emergency service workers across Ontario answer the call to help save more lives through team blood donations. Members of Belleville Fire & Emergency Services and Belleville Police Service will be taking part in appointments throughout the summer months to help meet the need for whole blood donations.
“As first responders, we see the need for blood donations every day,” said Fire Chief and Director of Emergency Services Dan Smith. “I am so proud of our team for stepping up and taking action to address this growing need. I would like to invite all residents to join us in this effort and book an appointment to donate today.”
“I have been a proud donor for over 25 years and know just how crucial ongoing donations are,” said Deputy Police Chief Chris Barry. “With up to 50 donors needed to help a single crash victim, the need for blood never stops.
Donating is easy, takes less than an hour to do and bottom line, it saves lives. I’d encourage everyone to consider booking a blood donation appointment.”
Upcoming appointments are available at the Belleville Fish and Game Club on Aug. 14, Sept. 18 and Oct. 9, and Maranatha Church on Aug. 25. Those interested are encouraged to book online at: blood.ca.
