A mother has been charged with assaulting her six-year-old daughter.
Belleville Police say a 27-year-old woman was arguing with a 32-year-old man at an east end residence on Wednesday when, during the course of the argument, the woman allegedly struck her daughter.
Police were called to investigate the incident on Thursday afternoon and arrested the mother for assault.
The accused was held in custody for a show cause hearing Friday.
Names are being withheld to protect the identity of the child.
