A Deseronto man has been sentenced to 16 months in jail on a luring charge after being found guilty of making inappropriate sexual advances toward the teenaged granddaughter of his ex-wife.
The identity of the 62-year-old man will not be released to protect the identity of the victim.
The charge stems from when he was an employee of World’s Finest Shows at the midway during the 2017 Belleville Waterfront and Multicultural Festival.
At that time he reconnected with the teenaged girl through electronic means (texting).
The girl looked upon the man as a grandfather and texted that she loved him on more than one occasion.
The man asked her to prove it and eventually asked her for nude photos of herself. At that point she told her step-father and a police investigation was launched
The man was put on trial last March and found guilty by Justice John Bonn and sentenced Tuesday.
Aside from jail time he was sentenced to probation including terms for counselling and no contact with the girl.
He was also placed on a 10-year 161 order (no parks, community centres, schools; no contact with persons under 16 and no contact with any girl at her residence; no internet for illicit content), 10 years on the sexual offender registry and placed in the DNA databank.
