Smoke from wildfires burning in Northern Ontario and Quebec have caused a large amount of smoke to drift into the Belleville area ahead of planned Canada Day festivities.
Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement due to the hazards the smoke presents.
The Ministry of the Environment measured the air quality as a seven on their air quality index early Saturday morning, which carries a high risk rating. Conditions are expected to improve as the day goes on with the air quality index improving to five, or moderate risk, later in the day.
