Environment Canada has declared a severe thunderstorm watch for the Quinte region.
Conditions are favourable for storms that can generate winds upwards of 90 kilometres per hour, nickel- to toonie-sized hail, and torrential downpours.
The warning advises that the dangerous conditions are expected to last through the afternoon and evening. Area residents are advised to seek cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
