The following release was sent by the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation.
A local service club, celebrating its 80th anniversary, continues to support the campaign for a new hospital in Prince Edward County.
Outgoing President Barb Proctor and volunteers from the Rotary Club of Picton presented Shannon Coull, executive director of the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation (PECMHF), Monica Alyea, PECMHF board member, and Back the Build Campaign Cabinet members Elizabeth Crombie and Paul Massey with a $17,930 pledge installment towards their $100,000 commitment to the new hospital fundraising campaign. Coull, Crombie, and Massey are also Rotarians.
This donation, raised through annual fundraising events held by the Rotary Club of Picton brings the total amount raised by the Club to $67,104 for PECMHF’s Back the Build campaign.
“The Rotary Club of Picton’s steadfast support of the hospital and the community at large is both inspirational and longstanding,” said Coull. “The foundation’s partnership with the Rotary Club of Picton spans more than 20 years. Picton Rotary has contributed over $182,000 which has helped fund essential equipment needed at our County hospital and now Backs the Build for our new hospital. We also wish to congratulate the Rotary Club of Picton on 80 years of service above self and applaud all Picton Rotarians for working to better the world and our local community.”
The Rotary Club of Picton raised this year’s contribution through their 2022 golf tournament, this year’s Waterfalls Tour, the Lilac Ride, cash calendar sales, and other fundraising activities.
“We are thrilled to continue to support worthy causes in the community, including the building of our new County hospital,” said Proctor. “Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self was enacted by fundraising and supporting worthy projects both locally and internationally and we are grateful to everyone who participates in our events or purchases a cash calendar year after year. The Rotary Club of Picton is fortunate to have many long-serving people in the Club. These volunteers are a source of wisdom and experience and remain committed to the work of Rotary in our community.”
The procedure room in the ambulatory clinic in the new Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital will be named in recognition of the Rotary Club of Picton’s generous support.
“The work of the hospital foundation and campaign cabinet would not be possible without philanthropic leaders in the community, and their commitment to making a difference, as the Rotary Club of Picton continues to do,” said Coull. “The ongoing support from both of our local Rotary Clubs is another excellent example of the collaborative effort underway across Prince Edward County to help get our new, leading-edge hospital built and equipped with modern medical equipment.”
Rotary is a global network of 1.4 million neighbours, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change.
“As our community continues to grow, so does the need for our hospital. We’re thankful for the decades of support from Rotary and appreciate the club’s continued investment in our hospital,” said Coull.
The Rotary Club of Picton celebrated their 80th anniversary on June 7, 2023. They are a vibrant club of approximately 50 members who are recognized as passionate supporters of the Prince Edward County community and can be counted on for both charity and volunteering, locally and internationally.
