Prince Edward County Council is taking a bite out of the cost of repairing County Road 49 with tourism dollars.
During Tuesday’s council meeting, councillors voted to earmark up to a million dollars in tourism revenue in the 2024 budget to go towards efforts to repair the decaying County Road 49.
The decision to use municipal tourism revenue towards the project was inspired by the road serving as a major route for tourists to enter the region.
Prince Edward County Council has already looked at new means to fund the $30 million reconstruction project, including the establishment of a benefit fund and petitioning the provincial and federal governments for assistance.
The motion was passed after a brief debate.
