Quinte West City Council approved a request for funding to have the Trenton Golden Hawks host the Eastern Canada Cup, but not at the full amount requested.
City council selected the option which would take $5,000 from the city’s Tourism Development Fund, $1,500 as per the city’s Fee Waiver Policy, and $10,000 from the Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board for a total contribution of $16,500.
At a previous council meeting, the Golden Hawks had originally requested $30,000: $10,000 for ice time and $20,000 for expenses.
The city says the remaining $13,500 would be under the responsibility of the Trenton Golden Hawks organization.
The Golden Hawks previously hosted the tournament in 2017 and 2018 in partnership with the City of Quinte West.
The Eastern Canada Cup is scheduled to take place from November 13 – 15 at the Duncan McDonald Memorial Community Gardens.
