Belleville City Council approved an agreement with the Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board to continue to market the interests of the City of Belleville in regards to “resident attraction.”
The marketing would mainly target a skilled workforce with the hopes of retaining youth in the community.
The agreement to market the city is at a net cost to the city of Belleville of $86,862.39 and runs for five years.
In a report to council, it’s stated that resident attraction is critical at a time when attracting and keeping skilled workers in the community has been identified as “an obstacle to success” for local manufacturers and businesses as well as attracting new business investment in the area.
Councillor Paul Carr also said at council that part of the issue with resident attraction is housing.
“Every municipality is experiencing the same thing. We have way more demand and less supply when it comes to housing. So selling houses is not the problem. It’s the supply side,” Carr told council.
The City of Belleville has been in a partnership with the Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board since the board’s inception in 1982.
