A long time Centre Hastings councillor has resigned.
Council accepted the resignation of Jim Bonter at its meeting last week.
In a letter to council, Bonter said while he continues to enjoy the role, he must focus on his health and feels it is best to step back from the commitment.
Centre Hastings Mayor Tom Deline thanked Bonter for his service and dedication to the community.
As per Centre Hastings’ Council Vacancy Policy, the next person with the highest number of votes from the October 2022 election will be appointed to fill the vacant seat.
Judy Brant will be appointed to the seat and will take the Oath of Office at the June 7 meeting of Council.
Bonter’s letter to council:
“After some careful consideration, I have decided to step down from my role as councillor for the Municipality of Centre Hastings. While I continue to enjoy the role, I also recognize the need to be able to respond to the needs of citizens within our community, which has at times been difficult for me given my current health situation. Although I am feeling well at this time, I need to continue to focus on my health and feel it is best to step back from this commitment. It has been great for me to be a part of the team and I will continue to be an active member of this great community.
Thanks to you all for your ongoing support! The nature of a small town is so special especially during times such as this. I look forward to staying in touch with you all!
Thanks for everything.”
