Belleville police reported a slight increase in total crimes in the first quarter of 2023 compared to this time last year.
Police say they were a total of 1,097 crimes reported in the first quarter of 2023 compared to 1,040 crimes reported this time last year.
There were notable increases in weapons offences and assaults in this quarter.
Weapons offense calls were up 61% compared to the last quarter, while assault reports were up 47%.
