May 19 is National Lifejacket Day.
The Quinte Region Drowning Prevention Coalition has prepared a video reminding everyone to wear their lifejackets.
Drowning Coalition members have shared some important messages regarding lifejackets. Staff Sergeant John Hatch, Detachment Commander of the Prince Edward OPP Detachment stated, “Sadly, each year hundreds of Canadians lose their lives because they were not wearing their lifejackets out on the water. Remember to check your lifejacket or PFD to ensure it is in proper working order and make sure you wear it, it could save your life.” Another Coalition member, Bill Roberts, municipal councillor in Prince Edward County shared, “Do your part to ensure a safe boating and swimming season.”
Three local libraries, Prince Edward County, Belleville and Quinte West will have lifejackets available this month for borrowing. Contact your local library for more details on this program.
