One of the longest serving volunteer organizations in the Quinte region celebrated an impressive milestone Wednesday.
At a volunteer appreciation tea at St. Matthews Church, the Belleville General Hospital Auxiliary was recognized for its 85 years of dedicated service.
The Auxiliary was formed in April of 1938 and has continued to operate volunteer services at BGH and at the Opportunity Shop in the downtown district.
Since its inception the Auxiliary has contributed $4.3 million to help buy equipment for the hospital.
As well, it has donated another $167,000 toward activities for inpatients.
