Prince Edward County council has decided to outsource dispatching for Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue Service.
During Tuesday’s meeting of council, a report was received detailing the high cost to upgrade and maintain the 911 dispatch capability locally. It was decided that due to the low volume of calls, it would be more cost effective to outsource fire department dispatch to a larger municipality.
After reviewing candidates, municipal staff recommended entering into an agreement with St. Catharines’ Fire to handle dispatch needs for Prince Edward County.
The total cost of the contract is $405,797.50 which can be covered by the existing fire department budget.
Council approved the agreement as proposed by staff, without debate.
