After winning an unlikely South-East Conference championship and a berth in the OJHL final, the Trenton Golden Hawks have parted ways with coach and general manager Jerome Dupont.
Former Wellington Dukes and Cobourg Cougars general manager Todd Reid will step in as interim GM and will begin the process to hire a new coach.
In a short press release G-Hawks spokesperson Shawn Hicks says “these types of decisions are very difficult in our business, especially when dealing with good people.” It goes on to say the changes are a reflection of a change of direction where development of local players will have a greater focus.
The Golden Hawks roster largely consisted of players from outside the Quinte area.
Trenton finished in fourth place in the South-East Conference during the regular season before winning three rounds of the playoffs before losing to the favoured Collingwood Blues in five games in the final.
This was Dupont’s second go-round with the Golden Hawks.
He was with them from 2011 to 2017 winning the OJHL title in 2016 and the Dudley Hewitt Cup in 2016 and 2017.
