The Belleville Fire Department will soon have its communications systems upgraded with the latest technology.
Monday, council approved the spending of a little over $595,000 including tax to buy Motorola brand portable radios for its full-time and volunteer firefighters.
The department’s current radios are at end of life and parts are no longer available.
The new radios will have better reception and clarity among other improvements.
The purchase of portable radios will be phase 2 and the last phase of a communications upgrade.
Phase 1 involved various infrastructure improvements and was also handled by Motorola.
