Mrs. Carol Taylor, President of Belleville Navy League, was presented with the Chief of Defence Scroll of Appreciation by Colonel David Brown, Deputy Commander of the Cadets & Junior Canadian Rangers Support Group for her lifetime of service to Royal Canadian Sea Cadets, “in appreciation of the meritorious manner in which she, as a member of the Navy League of Canada, contributed to the betterment of the Canadian Cadet Organizations through her loyal service to the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets”. Carol, whose son joined cadets in 1990, has served in various positions on the Navy League Board of Directors for 33 years. She states it is always the joy of watching young people develop that keeps her involved.
SLt Matthew Batten, received the National Presidents Award as the 2023 Top Sea Cadet Officer in Canada in recognition of his work developing a network of Cadet Amateur Radio Stations across Canada. In an effort to introduce more STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) content via naval communications training to the Belleville Sea Cadets he introduced a small group of Quinte Cadets to Amateur Radio. When Covid shut down in-person training he developed a virtual training program with the Amateur Radios of Canada leading to several cadets obtaining their Federal Amateur Radio License. This program has now expanded across the country with Sea Cadet Units from BC to Nova Scotia having their own Amateur Radio Stations & licensed operators. The Army & Navy Cadet organizations are now joining. Graduates of this program can go on to professions in electronics & communication.
