Several tenants involved in an effort to stave off being evicted from their Trenton apartments made the trek to the Toronto headquarters of a property management firm Monday to try and discuss the issue.
Tenants have received eviction notices to allow renovations of the apartments to take place.
Spokesperson for Hands Off Our Homes Quinte West Shannon Lawrence rang Sterling Karamar’s doorbell but there was no answer and the doors were locked.
“We came here to try to get some communication and you see now first hand they know we’re here they have no intentions I guess of speaking with us.
We’re here peacefully, we just want to have a conversation – that’s it! We just want a few answers we just want communication.”
“We’re all good tenants. We pay our rent on time, we take good care of our units and we invite anybody to come take a look at our units and see if they’re in such states of disrepair that they require the tenant to be evicted in order to renovate.”
Hands Off Our Homes Quinte West will continue to protest the so-called “renovictions” at a rally in Queen’s Park and will again speak at a meeting of Quinte West council soon.
Joining the tenants Monday were councillors Zack Card and Duncan Armstrong.
