Prince Edward county council is apologizing to the public after remarks by one councillor have sparked some backlash.
During the April 11 regular council meeting, council was discussing a new by-law in regards to appointing a pound keeper to help manage issues with loose livestock wandering amok.
During a debate over the current motion, councillor Bill Roberts compared the multiple loose ends caused by the complex roaming cattle issue to “a Don King haircut.”
Don King is a famous and flamboyant boxing promoter, known for his extreme and distinctive haircut.
Councillor Roberts was accused of comparing Don King’s head to feral cattle.
Mayor Steve Ferguson issued an apology on behalf of the municipality during Tuesday’s council meeting.
“I want to apologize and I believe I probably speak for members of council. And for the fact that this apology has taken this long to be made,” said Mayor Ferguson.
Councillor Roberts expressed his regret that the remark was misunderstood. “If my remarks were misconstrued or misunderstood, I regret that,” he said.
Mayor Ferguson also remarked that the municipality would be revisiting its anti-racism policy, to prevent any similar incidents from happening in the future.
