After more than a year, the Shire Hall renovation project is officially complete.
Prince Edward County Council held its first meeting in several months in Council Chambers last night.
The building reopened to the public on April 18.
Shire Hall had not seen any significant improvements since the early 1980s and council chambers had not had an update since the late 1970s.
The audio-visual system was upgraded significantly and improved wireless internet in the council chamber will ensure hybrid meetings can function seamlessly.
The project contractor used custom millwork to build the desks where council sits.
The original staircase was reworked to meet current building standards.
There were also upgrades to the rest of Shire Hall to refresh the space and bring it up to building code standards.
The renovations cost a little over $400,000 with the money coming from all three levels of government.
With improvements to the chambers and building now complete, the municipality will turn its attention in future years to renovating the accessible entrance and washrooms on the main level of Shire Hall.
