It’s spring and the annual complaints against one of our country’s national symbols, the Canada Goose, have begun.
Monday Belleville Councillor Sean Kelly said many residents were afraid of walking a path past three stormwater ponds from Lemoine Street up to the area around No Frills on Bell Boulevard because of the number of geese hanging out there.
Kelly said a mother had to pick up her 17-year-old son in a vehicle as he left his part-time job because he was afraid of the geese.
Kelly, a big man, said he’d walked the area on the weekend and the geese stressed him out.
“… and I counted about 15 geese and I was nervous walking through there.”
As usual, there are numerous complaints about the geese and their droppings. Manager of Transit and Operations Services Joe Reid told council the city employs several strategies to discourage geese from loitering and very regularly sweep trails to remove their droppings.
