For the third time since 2015 the Trenton Golden Hawks will play for the Frank L. Buckland Cup.
The G-Hawks open the OJHL championship series tonight (Thurs.) in Collingwood against the North-West Conference regular season champion Blues.
The two teams met just once during the regular season, a 4-3 overtime win by Collingwood in November.
The Blues finished 14 points ahead of Trenton during the regular season which makes the Golden Hawks underdogs. Captain Mitch LaFay says that label suits them just fine.
G-Hawks coach and GM Jerome Dupont says his team is ready for the challenge.
The Golden Hawks won the OJHL championship in 2016 while losing the final to Georgetown in 2017. Dupont was Trenton’s coach on both occasions.
Game time is 7 o’clock in Collingwood.
Game 2 is in Trenton Saturday night at 7:30.
The winner of this series advances to the Centennial Cup National Junior A Hockey Championship.
