The Trenton Golden Hawks narrowly slipped past the Wellington Dukes 2-1 in double overtime at the Duke Dome on Friday night, claiming the OJHL South East Conference Championship.
Nathan Oickle and Jordan Fuller scored for the Golden Hawks.
Both teams slipped a single goal in during the first period before settling into a stalemate that lasted the rest of the game, with neither team willing to give an inch of ground to the other. With the score tied, the game progressed to overtime, and then double overtime where the Golden Hawks managed to score once more and take home the win.
The season isn’t quite over for the Golden Hawks. As the South East Conference champions, they now are set to face off with the South West Conference champions, the Collingwood Blues. A victory over them could see the Golden Hawks competing for even higher championship titles.
