An active officer and retired member of the Belleville Police Service received the Order of Merit of the Police Forces from Governer General Mary Simon this week.
The Order recognizes long-time service to the community that goes above and beyond the call of duty.
Deputy Chief Chris Barry was invested as the Officer of the Order at a ceremony.
That distinction recognizes outstanding meritorious service in duties of responsibility over an extended period, usually at the regional or provincial level.
At the same ceremony, Nadine Langlois, a retired member of the Belleville Police Service and a Human Resources and Financial Administrator, was invested as a Member of the Order.
That distinction recognizes exceptional service or performance of duty over an extended period.
Less than one percent of police officers in Canada receive the award.
