The MPP for residents of an apartment complex in Trenton, is telling them to not sign anything without a lawyer and to know their rights.
On the Lorne Brooker Show Friday, Todd Smith discussed the renovictions at four apartment buildings on Sidney Street.
Smith says although what the Mississauga company is doing is not illegal, they are preying on people.
” … aggressively prioritizing profits and predatory type of a tactic, where they’re forcing people who might not know their rights out on the street.”
He says only the Landlord Tenant Board can evict a tenant.
A super for the buildings told tenants they would all be receiving a so-called renoviction notice from Bedford Properties, so they can do upgrades on the units.
Tenants of the buildings have been offered $4,000 by the company if they leave voluntarily.
