Jobs of all kinds have been and remain available in the Quinte region but it seems just about everyone who can work is.
Brad Labadie, Executive Director of the Centre for Workplace Development says the participation rate in the workplace locally is very high.
And he points out that the regional unemployment of of 5.1% last month is just about as low as it can go.
“5% unemployment if really when you are at full employment and the people who are left over in the unemployment rate are people who face barriers. They want to work, for the most part they want to work but they face barriers.”
Labadie added that strategies need to be worked out to attract immigrants who are now living in larger communities to move to the Quinte region.
Meanwhile Bay of Quinte riding MP Ryan Williams told the Quinte Economic Development Commission Thursday that employers looking for workers should consider offering part-time jobs instead of full-time to bring people 55 years of age and older back into the labour force.
