There’s good news for people wanting to train for some of the many jobs that are available in the Quinte region.
At a meeting of the Quinte Economic Development Committee Thursday, Bay of Quinte riding MPP Todd Smith announced $1.3 million in funding for the Elevate Plus program offered at Loyalist College.
Elevate Plus d offers people who’ve been unemployed for some time free six-week training courses for jobs in the manufacturing sector.
Smith said Elevate Plus is a great program and should be expanded across the country.
“It’s amazing, when I do have the opportunity to come just to hear those real life stories about how the Elevate Plus program has changed individuals’ lives.”
Smith added that the program should be expanded across the country.
Since 2014, Loyalist College’s Elevate Plus program has placed 224 graduates into jobs.
The $1.3 million will not only help training the long term unemployed but will also be used to provide training to current employees in the manufacturing sector.
Last year 725 employees from 48 regional manufacturers received training.
