Prince Edward County Fire & Rescue responded to a structure fire Wednesday morning.
Fire crews responded to the blaze just after 6 a.m. after a pedestrian walked past the home, saw the fire and called 911.
Crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze and limit further property damage.
The house was vacant at the time of the blaze and there were no injuries reported.
“We are encouraged when smoke and CO alarms are sounding when firefighters arrive on scene. Our firefighters did an awesome job containing the fire to a small portion of the home,” said Fire Chief Chad Brown in a statement.
“The fire caused about $100,000 in property damage but our crews prevented about $550,000 from further loss.”
The cause of blaze has been deemed as accidental.
