Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit has completed an investigation into an incident in November of last year where a man suffered an injury after fleeing from Belleville police.
SIU Director Joseph Martino has determined there were no reasonable grounds to believe the pursuing officer committed any criminal offence in connection to the man’s injury.
The incident involved a 35-year-old man driving a pickup truck speeding away from a RIDE program in the area of Bell Boulevard and Adam Street.
An officer on scene started pursuing the truck and shortly after the truck rear-ended another vehicle and ended up hitting the front of a building. The driver then took off on foot but was arrested by officers.
He was taken to hospital and treated for a fractured wrist.
