Prince Edward County Council has approved a motion to look into supporting an initiative that would bring a nurse practitioner clinic to Wellington.
The initiative was brought forward by the Rotary Club of Wellington.
During deputations, the Rotary’s David MacKinnon says it first submitted a conceptual proposal for the satellite clinic on December 21 based on discussions of the potential of 5,000 “orphaned patients” in the County.
MacKinnon says the proposal for a satellite clinic in Wellington must be submitted by the Belleville Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic to the provincial government.
It is cited that there is “underutilized space” at the existing Sandbanks Medical Clinic in Wellington that can accommodate two nurse practitioners and an additional nurse.
MacKinnon said during his presentation that he would ask council to provide support for the project once the Belleville Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic submits its proposal.
This would be in the form of funding and/or advocacy.
Council approved a motion looking into the initiative where city staff will look into the issue and bring back a report for the April 27 meeting.
