The Violence Awareness and Random Acts of Kindness (VARAK) Program has named Sheila Alexander its Kindness Citizen of the Year.
Gail Bernard who nominated Sheila said, “The quality of being friendly, generous and considerate of others without expecting praise or reward definitely defines Sheila. Sheila reaches out, taking on the task of making another person’s life easier and happier and then stands in the wings, watching everything unfold, not expecting any accolades. She derives pleasure from seeing the joy and happiness she brings to others.”
Bernard went on to say that during the lockdown, Sheila kept her trunk full of paper products and supplies and would leave care packages and gift cards without the recipient of her act of kindness knowing that she had been there.
Elias Rose, a Grade 12 student at Ècole secondaire Marc Garneau, was selected as the High School Kindness Winner.
Elias has helped many students offering his time and expertise with tutoring in a variety of subjects. He is always kind and respectful of others, is appreciated by staff and students alike and is a valued member of the school community.
Elias was awarded a new laptop computer and printer donated by the Quinte Mall.
