It is so well known that the scam has its own name, the Grandparents Scam.
On March 16, Belleville police officers went to a west end home after someone contacted an elderly woman, claiming to be a bail officer.
The caller advised her that a relative was being held and required thousands of dollars to be released from custody.
After they were sent a large sum of money, they called the suspect again, telling her she needed to send more cash.
That is when she called police.
Charged with Fraud Over $5,000 and Impersonating an Officer are 20-year old El Mahdi El Caiche of Quebec and 22-year old Dave Jolivet of Toronto.
El Caiche is also facing a number of traffic charges, while Jolivet has also been charged with Breach of Probation.
A vehicle was seized in the investigation and police will be obtaining a warrant to search the vehicle.
