Quinte West council will try and set its budget for this year at a special meeting Wednesday afternoon.
At a previous meeting council asked staff to bring back options that would
allow a residential tax increase of 3%.
In a report council will see Wednesday staff says low risk options to reduce costs include cutting some grants to outside organizations, increasing user fees such as increasing garbage bag tag prices, eliminating property tax discounts for industrial and commercial vacant land and using more money from reserve accounts.
Staff stress that having a zero per cent capital spending increase would cause the condition of roads and streets to deteriorate.
