“We want to make sure we, we take the proper steps moving forward as, you know, we’ve seen the industry move away from, you know, traditional diesel buses as a part of a carbon decrease as a nation. So we’re doing our part. Good planning gets good results and that’s what we’re trying to do.”
“BYD, which is a manufacturer of battery electric buses here in North America, they actually had an electric bus with us and Belleville Transit for a few months and helped plan and look at how it fits within our fleet.”
Jennifer O’Connell, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities, on behalf of the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities says, “Zero-emission transit is vital in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reaching net zero by 2050. This funding will lay the groundwork for the City of Belleville to transition to a zero-emission bus fleet. The Government of Canada will continue to work with partners to improve the quality of life of all Canadians.”
Mayor Neil Ellis says, “Being able to provide residents with more sustainable and eco-friendly transportation options is crucial. As a city, we strive to reduce the impact our services have on the environment and zero-emission public transit will advance our efforts just that much further. I would like to thank our partners at the federal level for their support and we look forward to moving ahead with this exciting project.”
