Two people were rescued Friday morning after becoming trapped on a floating chunk of ice.
Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue responded to an emergency call on Cressy Bayside Road at 9:30 a.m. where a group of people had ventured out onto unsafe lake ice.
A chunk broke away from shore with two people on it and began to float away, reaching about a kilometre from shore.
Firefighters were able to reach the pair with a rescue boat and return them to shore unharmed.
Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue is warning the public that the ice is unstable and unsafe, and advises everyone to stay off the ice.
PECFR also warned that an ice breaker has been through Adolphus Reach and Picton Bay, breaking up ice and making it dangerous to travel. Warm weather conditions and rain are also eroding ice across Prince Edward County.
