Two Belleville police officers have been commended by the city’s Police Services Board for going above and beyond the call of duty while showing compassion to a local family in need early this month.
A woman in serious medical distress passed away while trying to get to Belleville General Hospital early on the morning of March 4.
Police informed her husband and learned that his wife was his primary caregiver as he suffered from several medical problems.
Officers Greg Kendall and Jeff Smith immediately called in family members to the home and then proceeded to shovel the family’s driveway after a storm that dumped around 30 cm of heavy snow.
Police Chief Mike Callaghan called their work a “shining example” of the compassion and dedication shown by his officers on a daily basis.
