After a three year hiatus, Maple in the County is back and ready to offer authentic sugar bush experiences.
The annual event in Prince Edward County was one of the first major events in the region to be cancelled due to COVID-19 in 2020 and has not been held since.
The kickoff to this year’s festival was held Friday at Fosterholm Farms.
Bay of Quinte MP Ryan Williams and his children helped tap a tree while he, a representative for MPP Todd Smith (who could not be there) and Prince Edward County Mayor Steve Ferguson all spoke about the tradition of the event and the strength of agriculture in the community.
With mild weather getting the season off to an early start at the beginning of February, the maple syrup producers participating have been so busy making syrup they’ve hardly had time to get ready for the annual festival.
But Ron Hubbs of Hubbs Sugarbush told Quinte News the five maple syrup producers participating are ready and can’t wait to welcome everyone.
The event on March 25 and 26 is a self-guided tour featuring family friendly events like pancake breakfasts, taffy, wagon rides, petting zoos and, of course, plenty of maple products for sale from syrup to candy, popcorn, tarts and more.
