After increasing significantly in January the local unemployment rate decreased significantly last month.
According to Statistics Canada, February’s unemployment rate in the Belleville Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) dropped to 5.5% from 6.1% in January.
The Belleville CMA includes Belleville, Quinte West, Tyendinaga/Deseronto, and Stirling Rawdon.
The lower unemployment rate came despite a higher worker participation rate, at 65.1%, than the month before.
Meanwhile the national unemployment rate remained at 5% in February and went down slightly in Ontario to 5.1% from 5.2%.
