Pirates survive Rebels
The Campbellford Rebels finished 41 points behind the Picton Pirates in the Provincial Junior C Hockey League’s regular season however they threw a scare into them in Game 1 of their playoffs Thursday night.
It took a power play goal by Cole Stevenson late in the second period to give the favoured Pirates a 3-2 win in the opener of their best of seven series.
Ian Harrison and Zach Brooks also scored for Picton. Brock Kelsh and Dennis Fisher replied for the Rebels. Game 2 is in Campbellford Saturday night.
The Frankford Huskies play the Panthers in Port Hope in Game 2 of their series Friday night. The Huskies were 4-0 winners in the opener.
Golden Hawks open post season tonight (Fri)
The Trenton Golden Hawks entertain the Cobourg Cougars in Game 1 in their best of seven OJHL series at the Community Gardens Friday night.
This should be a close series. The G-Hawks finished in fourth place in the South-East Conference five points ahead of Cobourg but the Cougars won the season series 3-2.
Game time is 7:30.
Meanwhile the Wellington Dukes are in Toronto to take on the St. Michaels Buzzers. The Dukes took the opener 7-4.
