Demolition of the former Wellington Arena is set to take place on March 17 in order to make way for the construction of a new 36-unit affordable housing development comprised of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units and four three-bedroom affordable family townhomes set for the early fall of 2024.
The County notes that heavy equipment may limit the visibility of the area and noise levels will go up during the demolition.
Temporary road closures are also expected.
Motorists and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area if possible.
In addition to city staff going door-to-door in the immediate area to inform residents about the demolition, a pubic meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the Wellington and District Community Centre on Monday, March 13 to discuss the demolition and answer questions from residents.
More about the project can be found at the Prince Edward County Affordable Housing Corporation’s website.
