Family and friends of Travis Gillespie have announced the first annual “Travis Gillespie Memorial Hockey Tournament”.
The tournament is to honour the York Regional Police Constable who was killed in a collision on his way to work on September 14, 2022.
It will take place at the Warkworth Arena and Community Centre on March 11.
The 12-hour tournament will raise funds for “Hearts for Martial Arts” and the “Warkworth Minor Hockey Association.”
“This memorial tournament is a way for my family and me to help the spirit of Travis continue living on. He was a hero, a brother and an avid MMA enthusiast, but above all Travis was a fun-filled outgoing Uncle,” said Dan Gillespie, the younger brother of Travis, in a release.
“This tournament isn’t just to remember his love for hockey, it’s to remember his drive and determination when it came to life.”
The opening ceremony for the tournament will begin at 7:45 a.m. with puck drop slated for 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 11.
