A local cement company has been fined $200,000 under the Environmental Protection Act after a discharge of clinker dust that affected residents in Bath in October of 2019.
The dust from Lafarge Canada’s cement plant in Loyalist Township spread onto houses and vehicles in and around Bath causing complaints from residents.
A mechanical failure at the plant caused the release of the dust into the air.
Lafarge Canada took immediate responsibility for the incident and the government believes there was no permanent damage to people’s health or property as a result.
The fine was handed out recently in a Napanee courtroom.
