It’s the end of the season for local Junior A hockey, and both the Golden Hawks and the Dukes ended with a bang.
The Trenton Golden Hawks demolished the Lindsay Muskies 7-1.
Adam OMarra, Eric Bonsteel, Robbie Rutledge, Nathan Oickle, Sam Williamson, and Thomas Kuipers all scored for the Golden Hawks.
The Golden Hawks opened scoring halfway into the first frame with an unanswered goal, before an explosive second period saw the Golden Hawks take off into the stratosphere with a devastating series of four goals. The Muskies claimed one of their own but could not keep pace as they fell further and further behind. The triumphant Golden Hawks extended their lead with two more points in the third period and took home the win.
Meanwhile the Wellington Dukes defeated the Oakville Blades 5-2.
Ryan Smith, Jacob Dietz, Edward Moskowitz, and Jacob Vreugdenhill scored for the Dukes.
The Blades took a lightning quick first goal just one minute into the game, but the Dukes responded shortly after with one of their own. The Blades claimed another goal so the Dukes took two more to ensure they held the lead at the end of the frame. Going into the second period, the Dukes took two more goals, and then held their lead through a scoreless third period to claim victory.
In local Junior C hockey, the Napanee Raiders slipped past the Frankford Huskies 4-3 in overtime.
In the Eastern Ontario Super League Playoffs, The Tweed Oil Kings beat the Smiths Falls Rideaus 9-5, winning their playoff series and moving on to the next round. Next they face the Gananoque Islanders in the semifinals for a best of five series.
