Local hockey in the Quinte region took off on Friday night.
In local Junior A hockey, the Wellington Dukes demolished the Lindsay Muskies 6-1, securing the number two seed in the eastern conference.
Corbin Roach, Barrett Joynt and Edward Moskowitz scored for the Dukes, with Moskowitz claiming a hat trick by scoring three points in the first period.
The Muskies opened up scoring just after three minutes with their only goal of the night before the Dukes came back swinging. After a point by Corbin Roach, Edward Moskowitz went on a rampage, scoring three points in under five minutes of play to end the first period.
The Dukes went on to extend their lead by two more points, one in the second and a last one in the third period, to win the game.
Meanwhile the Trenton Golden Hawks destroyed the Oakville Blades 9-2.
Zev Podolski, Austin DOrazio, Robbie Rutledge, Sami Douglas-Najem, Jack Natyshak, Matthew Cato, and Adam OMarra scored for the Golden Hawks.
The Golden Hawks took off flying in the first period with an explosive offence claiming four goals in the first period, before the Blades could slip in their first goal of the night with only a second left on the clock.
The second frame was stuck in a deadlock, with only a single unanswered goal from the Golden Hawks, before in the third frame the G-Hawks came back with a vengeance, scoring four more goals to the Blade’s one and ending the game with a commanding lead.
Both the Golden Hawks and the Dukes play again tonight. The Golden Hawks face the Lindsay Muskies and the Dukes square off against the Oakville Blades. The puck drops for both games at 7 p.m.
In local Junior C hockey, the Napanee Raiders and the Campbellford Rebels clash at the Strathcona Paper Centre was postponed.
And in the Eastern Ontario Senior League Playoffs, the Smiths Falls Rideaus stay alive in best of five quarterfinals with a 4-3 win over the Tweed Oil Kings on Friday night. Game 4 starts at 7:30 tonight in Smiths Falls.
