The Chief of Belleville Fire and Emergency Services has resigned.
An email sent Thursday to members of the fire department revealed that Monique Belair has tendered her resignation.
April 11 is her last day.
She did not say where she was going in the correspondence, but she is reportedly headed to Kingston to take over as chief.
Belair, the City of Belleville’s first female fire chief, took over the position less than two years ago.
She has been instrumental in introducing women to the field of firefighting, establishing a branch of Camp Molly in the Quinte region.
The camp, which she started in the Oakville region several years ago, gives young women between the ages of 15 and 18 a chance to learn about a possible career in firefighting.
