The Batawa Ski Racing Club capped a great weekend of racing with most teams completing their Alpine Ontario Southern Ontario Division season prior to the upcoming Batawa Ski Racing Club Race weekend celebration and March invitationals.
On Sunday, the U12 team travelled north of Barrie to the Heights of Horseshoe for a Slalom race. In the men’s race, Avery Forrest won the Silver medal while in the women’s race Gwenna Cone was the top female racer finishing 11th.
Five members of U14 team travelled to Georgian Peaks and Alpine Ski Club in Collingwood for the SOD Finals finals for a Giant Slalom on Sunday. The finals bring together the top finishers from each Club in all brackets, and is an opportunity for athletes to compete against a different field of racers. In a very competitive women’s race, Maya Bianchi was the top Batawa finisher placing 12th.
Seven U16/U19 athletes travelled to Devil’s Glen just south of Collingwood for the SOD Cup Finals to compete in a Giant Slalom race featuring two very challenging courses. Racing in her final SOD Cup event of her career, Haleigh MacPherson won the U19 Women’s Silver medal, a great accomplishment to cap off her racing since she began in U8. U19 Holly Liu, also completing her final SOD race, earned her way into the event. Spencer Dullard-Krizay turned in two strong runs, including a second run clocking the fastest time of the day, on a course that was testing the top racers all day long to win the U19 Men’s Gold medal. In the U16 women’s race, Anabella Cowling Zeljkovic was the top Batawa racer placing sixth.
Congratulations to all of our racers, from U8 all the way up to U19, on a wonderful season!
