A special International Women’s Day event will hear from a recent recipient of the Order of Canada.
Business and Professional Women HPE President Jennifer May Anderson says they’re cohosting the dinner with the United Nations Association in Canada Quinte Branch.
May says the guest speaker will be Michelle Leering, the Executive Director of the Community Advocacy and Legal Centre in Belleville.
“She’s a lawyer and also – so exciting for her and for our community – she was recently appointed to the Order of Canada for her efforts in community law.”
Anderson says recognizing the day was important to them.
“One of the things that we really wanted to do as an organization that is working to better the lives of women and girls, was to have an event where we could come together, all of the people who are supporting women’s issues in our community and have a forum to gather, celebrate local women.”
Karen Poste, former Manager of Economic Development and now Manager of Physician Recruitment and Retention for the City of Belleville will also be honoured.
The event is being held at The Grand in Belleville on March 8.
