Belleville council is supporting Councillor Paul Carr’s motion to pressure the provincial government to declare homelessness in Ontario communities a crisis and to start seriously investing in a solution.
Carr said the homelessness issue is one municipalities have the most responsibility for but don’t have the resources to tackle effectively.
“Whereas leadership and urgent action is needed from the provincial government on an emergency basis to develop, resource and implement a comprehensive plan to prevent, reduce and ultimately end homelessness in Ontario.”
The resolution is to be distributed to all levels of government and all municipalities in Ontario along with Indigenous and community economic partners.
